Glenn,

A favorite wet fly that I tie ,I like mixing dark claret yarn in my dark hare ear fur. #8 -3x fine wire hook ,weighted ,copper wire rib ,no tail ,and a few turns of grouse hackle in front. Brown spotted hen will also work.

That sounds good. Thank for the pattern. I'll ties some of those up. I think I'll also mix some claret yarn in with bit of my dark cat fur and see how that works.

My cat hair nymph has been my go-to fly when nothing's hitting on the surface. I call it the "Lucky Grouch" nymph. It's really simple: #14 3906B with a dark cat fur abdomen, ribbed with thin gold wire, and a lighter fur thorax with and sometimes without a turkey quill wing case (doesn't seem to make a lot of difference).

That takes us right back to the quote that Jimmy Moore sent out yesterday:

'Ninety percent of what a trout eats is brown and fuzzy and about five-eighths of an inch long.'" Allison Moir - "Love the Man, Love the Fly Rod"

Thanks again for the idea with the claret yarn.

And have a VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR.

Allan
