Reuven: Might be a warning. or a curse, as today made trip number FIVE that I got skunked. My wife and I went out and all we caught was a cold LOL...We tried every tip, every trick, and every fly in the box... I found the fish.. In the original creek channel, and I trolled jigs and all sorts of other heavy flies (cause they are holding at about 15ft deep, and since I don't have a sinking line or tip, I even put a piece of split shot where the leader meets the fly line) and NOTHING.. Not even a nibble LOL...Had fun out in the fresh air though.. temp was about 62 and Sunny, with only a light breeze, and warm as long as you were in the sun...Oh, on the raccoon, it's hair is also longer than a hare, Chuck

Perhaps it was a warning to you(??)

No need for a photo. I don't think it will help but thanks for the offer.

Reuven.. It has more of the spiky outer guard hairs than the hare, and less underfur I think... I'm not sure about the waterproofness.. I can take a pic
of it and send you if you want.. I have not seen them for sale on any fly
tying sites, and don't know where My Mother In Law got this one from, Chuck

What is racoon like? I have never seen one or used any of its fur.
Is it long/short/thick/water resistant/etc?

Jimmy: You are a trapper right??? If so you may have what I have
substituted
for Hare's Mask.. It is a Raccoons mask... My Mother in Law used to make
Dream Catchers before she passed away, and I have one from that...HTH,
Chuck

Now the question. I don't have any Hares Mask to make a real Hare Ear.
Anyone know of a suitable substitute, or color that will work?
Jimi

The size I tie and use the most (and therefore have the best results
with)
is 14, size 12 would be next. But I tie them and use sizes 10-18.

The pattern I follow is the one in Dave Hughes' book "Essential Trout
Flies." But then, for some reason (senior moments) I forget to tie in the
gold ribbing on about half of them. Those seem to work just as well.
(Which
is further proof of what's said in the quote, I suppose.) :-)

Jim
