David , I wish I knew what size flies your tying to determined the length of hair needed. Most of the major fly catalogs have goat hair as well Artic Fox tail ,dyed in different colors and I feel our group here gave you some sorces. I like using calf tail if you can get the shiney ones with straight hair and usually that only can be gotten up to two inches. When you order some type of hair , call them first to se their suggestions and if available ,make sure you ask you need hair for a certain size hook ,type of fly your tying etc.. You do this with hackle also. You can check out the old Hunters Fly Shop now called Stone River Outfitters .at Web; www.StoneRiverOutfitters.com They got all kinds of hair and colors and the right size hackle if needed. Again you have to include the hook size and most suppliers will try their best to match what you need. Example you really don't need something to tie a #14 hook fly and really you need material for a 2/0 hook that is 3x long and include the brand name of the hook and hook sizes..Buck tails , really make wonderful streamers.as long it not having course hair. and seeing all the lead head jigs for bass and pike works well for trout and salmon. I really like using buck tails.... Glenn Overton
