I saw a special on Polar bears yesterday and the Zoo Keeper said that polar
bear hair was not actually opaque white, but a "translucent" and that the
yellowing comes from a high fat diet they eat, which is one specific type of
seal, and that the Polar bear is about to go on the endangered species
list, cause they said that global warming has caused the slabs of floating
ice that they swim from slab to slab are farther and farther away, and
sometimes the bears drown trying to reach the next piece of ice.. And, the
zoo keeper had a claw from one of those buggers.. Geez, it was at least 2"
long or more.. It would rip a person down to the bone, but she said that a
lot of the reason it being like that is because it acts as a "cleat" to be
able to run faster on ice without slippage, when chasing those seals.. very
interesting show... Chuck

"Polar bear is very difficult to come by, especially new white hair (i.e.
non-yellowed from storage- which is about worthless)."
DonO
Almost as difficult as Emperor Penguin I imagine.
