Actually, when Ron Reinhold still had the business, the most expensive hooks were over $30 apiece. Now that Ronn Lucas has the business, and has raised the prices.....(he says because R.R. hadn't raised them in 7 yrs.), they will be even higher. Most people (even tyers) just looking at the "Traditional" grade hook(s) would think that they are so beautiful, (and they are) that there could be nothing better. Ah.....but there is......the "Exposition" grade. In other words, it takes a trained eye to even tell the difference for most, at least in the beginning. The "Exposition" grade hooks truely are works of art. Art, being defined as "a way of life." Which is, the definaition of art. To make these hooks as beautiful as they are, you must make it a way of life. I highly doubt anyone would ever fish with a fly tyed on one of these hooks. As far as the flies themselves are concerned, that's a whole other story. Most tyers of traditional Atlantic Salmon flies, would never use a Ronn Lucas hook, weather they were going to put it in a frame or fish with it. The key word was most. They are simply to expensive for most guys/gals to use. And it's not that they couldn't afford them nessessarily, they're just cheap, lmao. I guess they figure hey, i've already got a fortune wraped up here in materials alone. Who knows what they figure......but they don't. They use good hooks, but not nessessarily the BEST! I see these hooks as something only the elite artist would use, simply because they are the only thing that will serve his purpose. Once you take it to that level, well....you got no choice. Sometimes having no choice, is a blessing. I'll give you one good example of a great fly tyer of Spey flies philosophy. John Shewey, the west coast master tyer says, "A majestic fish, deserves a majestic fly." Can you dig it? ..... Can you dig it? mark.....
