I lived in the lower panhandle of Alaska, Ketchikan, Wrangle, Petersburg and
Prince of Wales Island, for close to 6 years and I'll never forget the several
times I was literally "chased" out of the water by black bears during the
Steelhead and Coho runs. Scared the living bejesus out of me. When fishing
country where there's a problem with bears, I now carry a 44 Mag with hollow
points in a shoulder holster. I've never had to use it and hope to God that I
never will.

  Subject: [VFB] Flyfishing personal protection

To those who fish in bear country, esp. grizzly country, which I guess would
be the Central to Northern Rockies, Canada, and Alaska...

Do you carry personal protection while fishing remote areas? In what form?
Spray, hand-cannon, etc.?
