Chuck, totally nothin' wrong with wantin' some cake, AND wantin' to eat it as well. Trust me, it's nice, lol. Bob Dylan sang all about it many years ago, in the 60's. I've got a great fly for you, if you wanna catch both trout and gills on it, and i spoose if you tye it large enough, it'd undoubtedly catch a hell of a bass as well. You might have to look around a bit to find snowshoe rabbitt feet big enough for the job though. But i bet they are out there, for real. The fly is The Usual invented bt Fran betters of the Adirondacks in upstarte N.Y. Frannie is a living legend up there and, he also created the Haystack series, (of which was copied and refined by Caucci and Nastasi) to become the Compara(dun) series, and the Ausable Wulff, etc. Anyway, the Usual is nothing but Snowshoe Rabbitt gaurd hairs for the tail and wing, and the underfur for the body. Do the wing first, run the thread down to, and do, the tail, then dub you way back up...throwing a bit of dubbing in front of the wing on your way to whip finishing. Make sure (again) to get alllllll the underfur out of the hair before you do your wing and tail. Use some of it for the body along with softer stuff found other places on the foot. Never, i say NEVER use floatant on this fly. It'll ruin it's ability to be fishied in all the varieities(sp?) of ways it can be. Dead drift like a dry, pulled underneath and made to act as a popper, sunk with split shoot, or waterlogged and fished in the surface film as an emerger. GREAT fly and VERY versitile. Makes a great "One Fly" tournamnet fly. Tye them in natural and or green (for G. Drakes), olive (for Olives), yellow (for Sulphers), Grey or blue Grey (for Duns, or Slate Drakes), orange or orange/brown (for March Browns) , pink/grey (for Hendricksons), brown (for B. Drakes) etc., etc.......  Cool Aid makes a pretty good dye, make sure you get/use it without the sugar, lol. Longer the hair, the bigger fly you can tye. So look around a bit before making a purchase. When you do find the right feets, lol..... make sure you break the toes off and apart from the rest of the foot. You can get better results by working with the individuall toes, than by trying to work off the entire foot. Gives you more/better/easier access to the longer gaurd hairs. Have fun. mark.....  p.s. please excuse any typos........runnin' late, as always
