Hi Rene,
That was a nasty storm indeed. We've lost a fence, but for the rest we're fine. The woods around the village have taken a beating, though. I was out today and there are a lot of cars with small trailers filled with wood for the fireplace. It's still blustery, and the streams are swollen, which is a bummer because I'd planned on trying out my new rod.
Ah well. I'll stay in and tie some flies.
Mart

Gang,
usually we have not so bad weather here in Central Europe, but the night from Tuesday to Friday was very different. We had a major storm here with wind speed up to 100 miles. Lots of fallen trees, rising rivers and so on. The authorities did shut down most of the public transportation, trains and busses had to stop, because it was too dangarous for them. Some cars and trucks got blown away from motorways and bridges.
My empoyer sent out emails encouraging us to leave early for home.
I was on customer side, 300 km from home, and decided to drive home, even it was a bit difficult. I got words from home that the family had a bit of trouble with damages on the roof and some trees. The ride home was awkward. I have usually 3 options (motorways) to ride home, plus some variations. All 3 were shut down on some places, the biggest thing was a 50 miles closure due to trees and trucks which were damaged or blown to pieces. One interuption was cleaned up before I had to decide between 2 remaining options, therefor I was lucky to get home. But when I reached that point where they had just cleaned up, some more trees decides to fall down. Luckily they didn't hit me or my car, but that was a very uncomfortable new experience. I decided to stay outside to car, thout it woud help to discover new threads and run away.
Finally reached home after 5 hours - usually I need 2 and a half.
BTW: We had warnings to enter the Netherlands, because of the conditions there.
Mart, Henk, Hans, and the others in the Lowlands - are you fine?

The most worse consequence is, that the waterlevel of the Rhine is rising fast. No chance for fishing, my plan was to head out tomorrow for walleye. Therefore I have to ty flies.

We in upstate NY got the ice late last night also, I have lost a
couple of tree limbs but still have electricity [computer still
works] we are supposed to get 3 inches of snow tonight and more
tomorrow, no fun on the roads that’s for sure.

    It sure is tying weather.

Ice storm last night. All the live oaks are drooping like weeping
willows. Power off and on. 27 degrees right now. More freezing
rain and much lower temps forcast for this evening. This wouldn't
bother most of you guys and gals in the frozen north. You know how
to deal with it, but most of us down here in Central to Lower
Texas, don't have a clue. 1 inch of snow puts a halt to all
traffic. Schools close. Then there's the ice, which is a killer.
We only have an ice storm about every 10 years, thank the Lord>>
However, the sun, what little of it is coming through the clouds,
has a solar effect on the dark asphalt streets. They've all
melted, and are dry. Forecast is for more of the same through
tomorrow, with Snow showers on Wednesday.

The saving grace for us is that this is MLK Day and most
businesses and all schools, colleges around us are closed. Can't
go fishing, can't play golf, so, it looks like TV, reading a Tony
Hillerman tribal police novel and tying some flies. Could be worse.

    JD
