I didn't end up getting the lathe because I know it would lead to additional
expenses.  I thought of the cork float you sent me.  I really don't have the
time right now to teach myself but I do want to try it eventually.  Steve is
really getting into working on different wood projects so sooner or later if
he shows an interest than I have a good excuse to get one and I know if I
don't like it at least it will be used.  I would also like to take a class
on building rods.   I'm hoping they will offer one thru the DEM here in
Rhode Island.
