Mike I agree with Wes. I live 60 miles north of Reno in CA. I like Gilley's in Sparks on Rock Blvd. They were less snobbish and more helpful than the folks at the Reno Fly Shop. For supplies, I look at the Sportsman's Warehouse. Better prices on hooks, material etc...
Pyriamd Lake is on an Indian Reservation and you have to pay a fee to them. No NV license is needed. BIG cutthroats that are native to the lake are caught. There are size linitations. Woolley Worms (all colors, size 8 and higher work best) on a sinking line or Float with and indicator about 6' down. This is a very tricky lake. If you want to float tube it be very careful as the wind can come out of nowhere and take you away from shore. Davis Lake has in addition to trout; Pike. Fish and game will be erradicating the lake this year to get the non-native pike out of there (have been trying for 15 years with chemicals and this year they plan to drain it. Big fear is that the Pike will migrate to the Truckee and other rivers and reck havoc on the fish that are native. You will need a CA license. Frenchman Lake is a few miles before Lake Davis and is a good spot for Rainbows. Easy access for waders, float tubes etc,,, My favorite early spring lake. CA license needed and can be bought at Wiggings trading Post at the turn in to the lake. Neat OLD store The Truckee River is the closest to Reno and there is easy access points. Trout is the main target. NV license is needed Have never fished it but the three fly shops can give you hints on where, what and how. Good Luck Jim
