Thanks to everybody for the tips... I will wait until I can try before I buy
before buying another rod..That seems the only way to do it and get it
right...I do know what ya'll mean about different lines cause I had an elcheapo
line on my rod and it casts great.. I then bought a more expensive line
(thinking you get what you pay for) and it was JUNK on that rod..My thing is
this.. How can the rod i love be a 5wt and weigh 3-4 ounces, while my
Shakespeare 5wt weigh a pound and a half??? That's what I must look for too,
cause I have bad shoulders and just cannot hold up to a day of casting with
that heavy rod even thought I try to cast from my wrist..I JUST got in from the
lake.. Caught 50 bluegills, 1 rock bass, and 1 shell cracker in just 4 hours of
fishing, so that was about a fish every 5 minutes... I was pretty pleased..
But, my 13 yr old son went with Me and caught ZERO.. I tried everything I knew
to get him to catching fish.. We used the same fly, in the same boat.. He can
cast just as accurately as i can (the fish were IN the grass, so you had to
land the fly within 6 inches of the grass to get them to come out and hit
it)..I was thinking that since I was in the front of the boat, I hit the fish
before he got to them, so I even reversed the boat LOL... I felt bad and he
felt horrible LOL... Oh well, some days I guess are just not your days...Thanks
again for the rod info, Chuck
