Just returned last evening from North Padre Island National Seashore,
TX, where the Kemp's Ridley turtles hatch. Spent five fun filled days
with family. We stayed at the big Holiday Inn right on the beach at N.
Padre. Until Comfort Sweets was approved by the locals, the Inn was the
only hotel on the island. While the gals and grandkids played in the
surf, and lounged under the two big pop up awnings we bought for the
trip, my sons and I fished the surf, not with fly rods, the wind was
too stiff, but with surf rods, the kind you "sidewind"! We used tiny
squid for bait and surprisingly caught a bunch of fish. Nothing big
mind you, but up to twenty inches long. Mostly speckled trout and
sheepshead, in the surf near the fishing pier west of the Hotel.
Except for the sunburn, (my face got burned again), it was a great
trip. I used my # 50 sunblock and wore my big wide-brim hat, but the
glare still played havoc with my face. Oh well, when the little actinic
kerotoses come calling, I'll have my dermatologist burn them off.
Have A Great Day!
