There is also an article about Streamer flies in the Autumn 2007 issue of Fly
Tyer. I believe that is still the current issue. It’s not some of the
best tying I’ve seen but you will get the idea for them. The Cover fly was
a nice example of the Grey Ghost but I just noticed that Dave Klausmeyer tied
the fly on the cover which is why it was tied a lot nicer than the flies in the
article. <chuckle> You can get some nice patterns from the article but try
to copy David’s example on the cover for a nicer presentation.
  Enjoy,
  Deb

You can google Maine streamer patterns or you can look in Joe Bates Streamer
book, or google Carrie Stevens patterns but there are so many more than just
hers.
They were typically tied on 8x long hooks in size 2 or 4 for trolling but you
could also tie them in casting sizes on a 6 or 8 hooks 8x long. You could
also tie them tandem with beads on a wire.
There is also a classic streamer book but out by David Klausmeyer that is a
nice book for tying them.
I’ve got a book devoted just to Smelt Flies that you could probably find
pretty inexpensive. Many of the patterns are from New England.
A number of Smelt patterns…… just google smelt streamer patterns.
  The Black Ghost
  Grey Ghost
  The Demon
  The General MacArthur
  Golden Witch
  Greyhound
  Blue Devil
  Green Beauty
  Governor
  Supervisor
  Col. Bates
There is even a streamer list out there that you may stumble across in your
searches.
  Google Mike Martinek’s flies
Or Chris Del Plato’s flies (he had an article out on streamer flies in the
Premiere issue of Hatches Magazine)
That should give you a good start.
