I've used wing burners for making wings out of organza or nylon ribbon for
stone flys, caddis, and hoppers. The burned edge keeps the ribbon from
raveling, which can be a problem if you simply cut the ribbon. Makes a nice
translucent wing.

I have some wing burners I use when tying stone flies for show. I also
have some Iwassama wing burners for mayflies but rarely have I used them.
