Is there any clear definition how VIDEO_PALETTE_YUV420 should look
like? There are two contradicting usages for VIDEO_PALETTE_YUV420:

  (1) - the one used by the philips driver, which is a packed version
        of VIDEO_PALETTE_YUV420P.
        http://www.smcc.demon.nl/webcam/api.html#palette
  (2) - the v4l1 compatibility layer for v4l2 assumes
        VIDEO_PALETTE_YUV420 == VIDEO_PALETTE_YUV420P.

Alan's API document has no details about VIDEO_PALETTE_YUV420 ...

On the web I havn't found any specification for a packed YUV 420
format, everybody seems to use "YUV420" for the planar format
(guess that's why v4l2's compatibility layer makes no difference
between VIDEO_PALETTE_YUV420 and VIDEO_PALETTE_YUV420P).

Anyone knows whenever the somewhat strange yuv packing used by
philips is standard? And whenever it is really called "YUV420"?
URL?
