1) A video-only mode would be tricky, as the whole architecture is
designed around getting synchronised audio and video.

2) I will have a look why there was no error message when setting the
sample size.

3) I may consider a conversion mode for the sample size

4) Install the ALSA drivers - the alsa drivers for the chip work
perfectly! (don't install the kernel driver - it crashes the box, and
produces garbage half the time...)
