USB cameras usually are not capable of overlay. You don't need v4l-conf
and you want to run "xawtv -remote" to suppress overlay warnings.

xawtv was probing for the supported format?

The driver failed to deliver a frame in a reasonable time. I suggest you
inspect /var/log/messages and maybe contact the author of the driver
directly. Switch from usb-uhci to uhci, or the other way around if you
have UHCI host controller.
