[V4L] v4l2 command line app

Hello, I am looking for a command line app like 'v4lctl' but for v4l2.  I have an very stripped down box that does not include X and firing up fbtv to change channels has become a pain when I want to record something.  I did try to compile the sample apps that were on the same page as the v4l2 source, but they seem to want a whole bunch of X libs/.h's installed.  Does anyone know of a simple util like this?
