hello again.

I will try your suggestion, however I am a bit puzzled
        for three reasons:
-card # 46 is the Genie TV, which, as far as I know is
a BT878 card and mine is a TVmax basd on the BT848

you can always use the card option of 15 then. All card
types should/will be listed in your kernel source directory
in Documentation/video4linux/bttv/CARDLIST (helpful reading
for anyone else who is stuck without knowing their cardtype :)

-my card has a sound output connector (mini jack,
3.5mm) as well as in/out connectors for the cdrom
audio so that you can route the cdrom through the
        tvmax

this is the one thing that made me think, my card isnt a
TV-Max. It has no sound out (it does have the internal
connections fot btaudio to work on, however, so joy there :)
And if anyone can share the 'how did you get btaudio working'
with the rest of us, that would be much appreciated :D

-documentation only calls for 640x480 maximum
resolution, is it actually possible to get it going at
        1024x768?

In a world of amusing (and it is) the shop that sold the
card marked it as Zoltrix TV, so silly moi assumed it
was a TV-Max as opposed to the newer TV-Genie. Its
even labelled as a 'TV' on the invoice. its not
however (so that created a smile here ;)

So, it may or may NOT be possible for you, using that card,
to get 1024x768. I do know (by sheer pragmatism here) that
v4l1 does NOT always give the optimal resolution possible.
Then again, v4l2 doesnt get all things right either from
what has been said :\

I also run Mandrake (8.1) with a 2.4 kernel. FYI,
video is 3dfx 3/2000 and audio sblive value/oem.

        I would appreciate some clarifications.
        Thank you very much.

Not a problem, card type 15 should work jst fine for you.

regards
Stef
