[V4L] linux video drivers details

Hi     Im using ibmcam with linux to grab images. I use xawtv application to capture the images. I need to transmit the images so i need a codec. Im not sure whether my existing driver is supporting codec. How to send my images from xawtv to codec.  where can i get the codec details.? i need to use h.263 codec   regards anand
