The agpgart layer handles this, so yes - XFree86 can directly transfer image data through the AGP Gart window. Its not done as effectively as it could be. The current case is Xapp->sharedmemory->X->gart->Video Card but unless things have changed XFree86 agpgart doesn't support remapping the shared memory pages directly into the GART and referencing them.
