A few days ago, I went over to Fry's Electronics with a list of supported (v4l) usb webcams. Of the dozen or so on my list, not one matched to any of the 8 or so cameras Fry's had. The one that seemed like it might be "close enough" was the Ezonics EZ Cam II USB. And since the price was less than $40 usd, it seemed to be worth taking a chance on. BTW, this is a OV511+ USB Camera.
It works. I have gotten it to work with 'gqcam' and 'camserv', but the
picture quality is poor, and those 2 pieces of software are only marginally
useful in making picture adjustments. Whether this lack of control is a
frontend software, driver, or camera problem, I'm not sure, though I *feel* it
is a combination of all three.
In any case, I'm looking for recommendations for a usb webcam that has "good"
picture quality, is supported by v4l (#1), works under RH (2.4.9-31 or earlier),
works with a frontend package with good camera control (brightness, hue, etc),
and costs less than $100 usd.
Any recommendations? or suggestions?
Also, if one gets a hardware capture card, say for example WinTV, can WinTV
capture a usb camera, or must it be a camera that plugs into the card directly?
Any recommendations for a camera (usb or not)/ capture card combo with "good"
picture quality, software control and a reasonable price ($200-$300)?
