The fact that you saw no errors doesn't mean that the camera works with 
ov511. If the camera is an ov511, you should see something like this 
when you run 'dmesg':

ov511.c: USB OV511 camera found
ov511.c: model: Creative Labs WebCam 3
ov511.c: Sensor is an OV7610
ov511.c: Device registered on minor 0
ov511.c: v1.50.01 for Linux 2.4 : OV511 USB Camera Driver

If you only see the last line, it means your camera isn't supported by 
the ov511 driver. In that case, you should see a line that says:

usb.c: USB device 4 (vend/prod 0xb62/0x59) is not claimed by any active 
driver.

Send me that line and I will try to figure out what driver you need.

With most cameras, the LED only means that the camera is plugged in. 
Does the LED turn on if you plug in the camera when ov511 *isn't* loaded?
