I tried to change the lines you mentioned and no dice, they just wouldn't compile.
So I just gave in and compiled a 2.4.19 from kernel.org and like you said they work fine.

Use the CVS zoran drivers. The drivers in the kernel are basically buggy
and unsupported. I'm intending to send updated drivers to the kernel
list in a few months, but integration of the old drivers somehow didn't
work out (the saa7110 driver in the kernel is bugged).
