Install the patches and compile the new drivers. Also, make sure your apps support v4l2 (xawtv, gstreamer, etc.). Yes (v4l1-compat.o), but it doesn't work for the DC10+, because it uses v4l-extensions. The v4l2-zoran-driver supports both video4linux as well as video4linux2, though.
