Have a look at http://linux1394.sourceforge.net. The firewire driver is
now in the 2.3.x kernel tree.
We have support for PciLynx and Ohci chipsets, Async transmit/receive,
Iso receive, direct dma to user space for for frame acquisition (ohci),
user applications for grabbing movies, scanning the bus, etc.
A dv codec is also available at libdv.sourceforge.net.
