I'm thinking of encoding some video at 3.7mbs. (224 kbs of it will be
for audio).

In the experience of people on the list,
which delivers better perceived quality given that rate?

640x480 or 320x240

Assuming I'm using a fairly average TV set.

To be honest, my particular video source will have trouble managing
300 lines of horizontal resolution, so I'm sure 320x240 is the way
to go.

However, I was wondering in general.

The only other source I'm currently considering has a 400 line
horizontal resolution, thus it still seems that 640 across is a waste.
