Have you checked that you have the correct headers in the correct place ?
IIRC the readme in the i2c package warns about the possible header mess...
Check the readme and the headers for any problems.
I've compiled i2c 2.5.2 and bttv 0.7.41 with no errors on
kernels 2.2.16-2.2.17
(lotsa compiler warnings though...)
