I've played with this, and it's cool, but the mpegs it generates are
crap. The /only/ mpeg1 player I can get to play the frames is MTV,
which I'd really rather not rely on. Is this project truly deep-sixed,
or is there some glimmer of hope that the algorithm can be changed to
make good mpegs?

I am truly dissappointed by the lack of good, free software there is for
playing with video. I would love nothing more than to convert the
dozens of VHS home videos cassettes we have lying around into something
more usable, like a standard VCD. Maybe I should just wait for Sony or
JVC to come out with a VHS deck with MiniDV output :).
