[V4L] Win98 - XFree86 and what the parrot saw

Is it unreasonable to think I can get bttv(as of Kernel 2.4) , xawtv (3.3)
to work as well as Win98 and WebTV on the same set of hardware ? When I say
'work as well'  I'm refering to the size and quality of the picture not the
bells and whistles of the app .
