Video4Linux is an API for video capture and production gear for Linux.  Your problem 
is with XFree86 (not a Linux problem, necessarily).  Have a look at:

I'm pretty sure it'll work.  ATi has a good history of making their video cores at 
least partially backwards-compatible.
