Yes this is possible with the V4L 2 drivers installed. I am currently using a Pinnalce DC 10 Plus on linux 2.4.20 vanilla kernel and with video for linux 2 installed I can watch the video in xawtv (a tv viewing application that lets u watch the video input or video from a tv tuner) and capture video using the lavrec (comes in the mjpeg tools) to hard disk.
So I'd say in answer to your question yes it is possible.
