*This* is exactly why I think it's important for the legal profession,
especially any legal advisor we get for Vloggercon II, to have some
understanding of technology - like RSS and the content/copyright/etc
issues that arise from that.
Now having caught up with many insane threads -- I don't think Andrew
was exaggerating at how quickly the world of videoblogging could
change. I don't think we'll lose our voices or the ability to express
them that quickly, but commercial interests are moving into this "space"
very fast and trying to figure out if there's any money in it. Since
broadband is increasingly pervasive and ALL content is moving online, this is inevitable.
I almost think we should have a lobby group - a citizen media lobby
group. Bloggers, podcasters, videobloggers - our voice must not be lost
in either the government regulation realm OR the corporate realm. (Does
this exist? Does the EFF provide that role, or can we partner with them?)
It may be even more important to lobby Apple than the government.
The government follows commerce, which in turn follows technology.
Right now commerce is following the technology (and eyeball$) so
that is the more immediate and more impactful deveopment -- The FCC
will notice too, certainly. And we should be thinking about that and
developing a strategy. Perhaps partner with sympathetic larger
organizations so our voices can be louder.
I'm just riffing. Fear or not -- Andrew is right about our need to think
about the big picture and what it means for us.
We can discuss these issues regardless of when Vloggercon happens.
We could create a separate blog or talk space just for these issues,
like we did for the Vlogathon, and/or have Flash meetings.
