You are correct, daylight savings do not apply to GMT itself, GMT does
not suddenly gain or lose an hour.

This confusion is caused because the server is in the UK. From October
to March, UK time is the same as GMT. From March-October British
Summer Time takes effect, and BST = GMT+1

Generally I see it as one of these awful subjects that ends up
sounding much more complicated than it really is. Maybe the easiest
way round this stuff is just to have a live countdown in hours to when
the meeting starts.
