If you're up for spending $2700 or so, the new Sony HDV HVR-A1U 
camera may be a good choice.

Only downside is it is a bottom feeder which means if you are sooting 
anything longer than one hour per shot, you will lose time removing 
it from the tripod and the mounting slug and vice versa to change 
tapes. But the images will be killer great. I'll have a review on it 
in the next few months.
