Susan, as you may have noticed in another
thread I created after visiting your site, I think your approach is both crafty
and brilliant.
Yes, this registering creates obstacles to
spontaneous reactions. However, your vlog (not being cynical here-just
observant) is like a brilliantly designed "trap". It pulls the passer-by
in like some sort of mental quicksand. With avatars and the like, it makes
the new registrant feel "special".
Getting an email notice that someone has responded
to your post draws you back. I can easily see an involved discussion
developing about some vlog that creates strong reaction in people. This
simply would never happen without the interactive features you have
incorporated in your vlog.
I'll be interested in revisiting your vlog in the
future (registrants have their rights:) ) and seeing how your traffic
develops. Part of the answer to that question will be the quality of the
vlogs you produce. However, I think you have hit on "the formula" of how
to build a following by creating interaction.
