Nice one :) By the way my comments about hating the divx logo, well I mangled that paragraph totally. Its not to actual logo I dont like, I was moaning about the requirements for indie producers to show it, but I didnt complete the sentence properly. Anyway you've already reassured us on that one.
I think at the end of the day it will be various technical issues which determine how much DivX is used for web video of the videoblogging kind. wmv and mov have a head start due to free tools that use that format, and due to many computers shipping with the ability to play one or the other of those formats. The portable player market hotting up will be a factor, most seem to be going for mpeg4 but with variations in the exact fileformat used (eg Sony PSP). It will certainly be intersting to see if DivX can make itself a big name as a format used to distribute legitimate content. So far Id say most of your market has been for people converting stuff for their own personal use, so it makes sense to have started your voyage into hardware licensing with the dvd-player side of things. But the future is hard to predict, DivX needs to be carefgul that it isnt squeezed out of the market when the era of digital distribution of films etc really begins in ernest.
