You are certainly going to get diversity of answers. Here are a few of
mine.

> how many women vloggers are out there?

Millions, they just don't know it yet. In terms of this group, I don't
know. There are many lurkers who just read the posts and put up their
blogs.

> does gender even matter in vlogging? does it make a difference if
> the author is male or female? does vlogging transcend gender?

Sometimes. It depends on the person and the content. In the actual
skills necessary to create a blog, no I don't think so.

This is kind of like asking does writing transcend gender, does
photography transcend gender. The good stuff is good no matter who
does it. Even the bad stuff has value cuz it helps identify the good
stuff. I have to question why do we need to transcend gender and why
are women always asked to do so? Make it so you can't tell if it was
created by a woman. Hmmmm. I'm going to stew a bit on that.

It is like anything else, there are subjects that are of specific
interest to men and to women. What is encouraging about videoblogging
is that the individual's voice is heard without a filter or
gatekeeper. You get to experience that person and their point of view.
The communication via comments is two way so you have an opportunity
to communicate and share your experience no matter if that person is
female or male.

> do you think women are limited in utilizing vlogging because of a
> gap in technology or is the idea that women are not technologically
> savvy outdated?

No. I think that anyone can learn to do this. I was just reading an
article about a woman who is teaching a class seniors (some of whom
are 80 to 90 years old) how to do video news stories.

Now that busts up a few myths right then and there. It depends on how
the topic is presented, the language used and the importance of
reducing techno-phobia. I use to teach computer classes and for the
first 10 minutes of my Introduction to Computer class I would show my
students (primarily female) the insides of a computer. I named the
parts. I explained what the part did in non-technical terms. I
introduced vocabulary and concept and helped them put the two together.

My point is that if the instruction is made accessible anyone can
learn to do this, including women. It is not an inability based on
estrogen.
