Turn aside now all yee who might enter.

You've been warned. It is a dark and twisted road which now follows.

Its very simple to report the bug:

Just navigate to your site (or a site in question with a QT embed object).

Pull down the "help" menu from Firefox.

Select "Report a broken Website"

Thanks Andrew! I was so busy laughing at this thread I forgot to actually report the bug.

Geez, I' a dunce! Stupid! Stupid! Stupid!

Ok, bad humor and exclamation aside I've posted the bug just now through the Firefox "Help" menu via "report broken website" as Andrew pointed out.  I've also included this mail thread right in the bug input as reference. I'm sure they'll get a kick out of it and that it'll help them tremendously.

I've gone to such efforts to document this because  I really hope others will follow Andrews suggestion and do the same. Community feedback is ALL important as we all know as bloggers, vloggers and participators in social media, aka "participatory media". Hence the name. Feedback, praise, and comments are the go juice that keeps many of us going.

Furthermore, as well as Firefox don't forget to tell your favorite webservices and software authors like mefeedia.com, FireANT, Blip, vlogdir, vimeo or whomever it is you use how much you love and appreciate what they do for you for free. It's all in the seasonal spirit, and the best way to do that is to join their mailing list and participate in the discussions with good positive feedback. I participate in discussions on nearly every webservice I use daily. These include mefeedia's yahoo group, FireANT's yahoo goup, blip.tv's yahoo group, Delicious's mailing list, and more. Plus, (yes there's more!) I constantly harass (in a spirit of fun) those who don't have mailing lists (namely Odeo) because I both love what their services do for me and find participation in these mailing lists essential to what I do and love.  So...

HELP THEM, HELP YOU!

Speaking of which, Andrew I loved todays rocketboom post on firefox!

This is a perfect example of what I'm talking about here, about giving back and helping effect change. You've both advertised via word of mouth for a product we all love and given further encouraged to their developers and community, including me. And you've done it in an original and creative way. I thank you.

You've got an evil, cunning sort of genius and your sense of timing is impecible. In fact if I didn't enjoy it so damn much I'd take umbridge at your obvious manipulation of the situation. Sir. :)

Your vlog post today both gave me the platform and inspiration to make this ridiculous post. In fact, everyone, this debacle of a post is Andrew's fault, not mine. I avoid this responsibility for my own actions based on the fact that "everyone knows" I have poor impulse control and that on top of my love of open source and open access media.  I, like most who throw themselves into this game, am highly suseptable to the potential viral nature of the conversation which I love. I fully admit my weakness. :)

Enough of that though. I reported the rocketboom video from today as the example problem and the video will definitely get their attention. In fact I've enjoyed it so much I may revlog this whole thread on my blog and further participate in this over semi-viral manipulation of the situation. As if I'm not already over doing it. :P

Speaking of overdoing it, it'd be cool if others who are having this Firefox problem report other sites with the same issue so the Firefox develpers can get an idea of how many people it's affecting. Please use my report that follows as reference. It's all referenced in the bug report below.

I love it when a plan comes together!  ... even one so seemingly trivial as a bug report. :)

Medi-o-sphere unite!

Firefox embargo off!

Now it's back to shoveling pig shit for me.

P.S. A free beer to anyone who can cite all my tasteless movie references.

-Mike

And now for my bug report......

Quicktime videos appear to redraw improperly in 1.5 Firefox on Mac when the page resizes or scrolls.

They redraw offset up and to the left of where the plugin is suposed to play... about 25 pixels up and 25 to the left. This seems to happen when playing ALL Quicktime videos that are embeded in a page. (at least when there's a scroll bar or the window is resized.)

I think I'm using Firefox 1.5 rc2 or rc3.  The about page says the following.

Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O; en-US; rv:1.8) Gecko/20051111 Firefox/1.5

Following below is a partial transcript on the issue that should be informative as well as entertaining. The complete thread can be accessed here at the following url if you need more information or something to snicker about.

The problem is very widespread... and pretty annoying. Although not system critical I hope it will be a high priority on your buglist, as do a whole bunch of fans of Firefox from the video blogging community.  I hope you appreciate the lengths to which we've collectively gone with this whole thing. It's synchronicity. :)

We thank you for Firefox and wish you well!

I've had perpetual issues with any vid + firefox when scrolling for
awhile.. window blacks out, etc etc. I've kinda learned to not touch my
browser when viewing :)
