I really like the idea of working with your limitations, like Frank Carver suggested. You can also record yourself writing the credits on a white board then play it back at 5X faster. Or, if you have the ability, write backward on a piece of clear plastic, like some weather reporters do. That would be a neat low-tech gimmick. Just a couple ideas.
I know lots of people hate Pinnacle products, but I am a big fan of them. Pinnacle Studio has a pretty good credit-making device. Of course, it isn't free... I really like low-tech creative solutions. Sometimes they are overlooked because they aren't as cool and whiz-bang as the high-tech options, but that can also lend a certain charm or an air of really being a down-to-earth project.
