Greg,
It helps with the playback, trust me.  If you have quicktime 6, they are already there, but in 7 they were omitted, I had lots of lovely problems when I upgraded at first, avi's wouldn't play, or they would play with sound, or all I got was a white screen and sound track, those kind things.  for mp3 as sound go into expert settings and click the mp4 option and go into sound, it's all there.
