Sony Vegas is fast, fairly easy to learn, has never crashed on me.
It doesnt automatically accept AVI from most digital still cameras, however (only the audio).
That sucks because it requires extra steps using other software to get it properly imported.
This may be fixed in newer versions though.

used it briefly once or twice and had some problems with it.... but maybe you'll love it.
