Podfader here!

I started podcasting on openpodcast.org to experiment with the medium;
I had been in radio broadcasting during its second golden age, and
it was fun to be able to say anything I wanted, not just 7 dirty words
in random order...but arcane subjects, political commentary guaranteed
to offend Bush's 30-ish-percent hardcore base, and tech jargon that
you'd never get away with on a mass-appeal medium.

When the rss-based hosting services started appearing, I jumped to
blogmatrix. (http://pbcliberal.blogmatrix.com). Then others started
picking up my shortform commentaries and including them in longform
casts, and my life started to seem like it had been 25 years ago,
where producing was an obligation, and coming up dry was a weekly
source of anxiety.

Then we started work on a video on demand project, at the same time as
our busy season came along, and there was no way I could justify using
my audio postproduction suite to vent my spleen instead of doing the
audio soundtracks for the assets we're amassing for our jump into the
video on demand world.

At least I didn't have the excuse that I didn't know how much more
demanding audio production was than typing in wordpress. You think the
landscape is littered with podfaders, wait 'til the same thing happens
in the video world.

To some extent it already is. Look at how many video blogs have only
one or two video pieces online, usually produced in November or
December of last year, by people who had no idea how much work goes
into every second of high quality video acquisition and post-production.
