Yep, we got the Sony HD HC-1.

Beauuuuutiful camera.  And, ironically, cheaper than your last one.

I kinda like the widescreen, but I can't tell if it feels like something is missed from the 320x240 feel. I felt the same way when we made the jump from 240x180.  . .

It may make more sense to add some space on the sides, instead of moving in closer (as you did) to fill the frame.  It's become more a closeup of Amanda and less a full-body shot of her.  The big thing we lose is the desk.  By adding space in the sides, you will (if anything) add to the deskpace.

This way if you get cropped to 1.33, your image remains intact.  Alternatively, you could still shoot in 1.33 with the HC1...

And yes.  The image looks beautiful.

Downgraded HD?  Looks to me like they bought a new HD camera for their future pay-service, and began using it, and we're seeing the 'standard' downgraded version.

Yes/no?

I was wondering.  Today's RB episode is in Widescreen (the site .mov
file as well as the iTunes file)... so is RB catering to the new video
iPod screen size or did they just feel like broadcasting in widescreen
for the fun of it?

Curious,
