what can i say that hasn't already been said?
i will, however, answer your questions in my own voice....

After viewing the Interview with Markus Sandy on Blip by 93mm, you (collectively) are renowned for helping people to be able to vlog, which is a good thing, but in the long term:

is there a permalink for this video? i couldnt find it, i only saw an announcement on 93mm about the vlogging show in LA that markus will be presenting at.  i'd love to see the interview though...

1.  What are your objectives?

to teach people videoblogging and in general media literacy. give people a place to hang out and collaborate, use equipment if they don't have their own. be a community gathering space where we can hang out and teach/learn from each other.

2.  Why do you want to take on the media?

if i'm reading this right, that's not our intent. more like supplementing "the media" and if by "the media" you mean "big media" then yeah supplement. creating an alternative might be a better way of putting it.

3.  How much do you charge people to go on these courses?
i've never charged anyone to come to the node. and now that MNN (http://mnn.org) is teaching, it's also free there.

4.  Do you all still have jobs in the film/TV industry?
sometimes. as a freelancer i am often called by a couple post houses (ok like 1) to do some editing or digitizing or general techie help. though i'm moving to San Francisco and i don't know anyone there. so probably not.

5.  How exclusive is Node 101, could I join and do the same over here?
node101 is all about you. or anyone else willing to teach other people and meet on a regular basis.
so yeah, if you want to do that and be a part of the network, it's pretty much up to you. as andy said, the more the merrier. we're a collective so we can help each other teach and learn.

6.  How do you guys actually see the newbies such as myself, without any media training, videoblogging?

i don't know what you  mean by see? how do i perceive you?
media training is not required for videoblogging. that's the point of node101 really. that you don't need a BFA in film or videomaking to do this. simple tools, simple process, cut to the chase, get your voice heard. can be as simple or as complex as you see fit.

7.  Do you have ordinary jobs or do you actually work for or at Node 101?

like verdi said, being a freelancer is never ordinary. it's just in my blood to not work in an office and always have odd media jobs. so that's my background and it continues to be true.  Node 101 is not a job, but it is a commitment that a lot of people care about as much as a paying job.

I am asking these questions just to get a feel for this group, and to get a proper perspective to the kind of people I am reading the e-mails from on a daily basis.  You see I thought it was okay to involved in Videoblogging so long as you had a camcorder, a computer with editing software and a broadband connection, a little bit of talent and a self inflated ego to be able to post my face on line.

who ever said it wasnt this? this is what we are consistently teaching
you, a camera, computer, internet.
there ya go. get your voice heard.

and a sidenote here
Node101 is not about the handful of folks that first started it
it's about the people who want it to flourish
and make it real in their communities
like cable access in a way, it's about creating local networks/resources that hook up to a larger one
though cable access didn't really succeed in the latter
i think node101 can.
