The first day I borrowed a video camera from the office, I was filming
random (and boring) stuff around town. Then we went to dinner at a
local restaurant which featured, with no announcement, a concert by a
local gospel choir. I didn't think twice about getting right in
people's faces to get what I wanted (fortunately, I'd already finished
dinner), results are on http://www.beginningwithi.com/vlog/040720.htm

Maybe I'm just obnoxious, but it never occurred to me to worry about
filming anywhere, except the few times I've specifically been stopped.
But since I'm obviously a foreigner here I guess I am assumed to be an
over-zealous tourist. I probably get away with some things because
people who might want to tell me no don't think they can master the
English to explain it to me - they can't tell just by looking that I
speak Italian.
