I agree -- with an additional point to make. First, I agree that YouTube currently appears to be "king" of the online video space. I also believe your comments apply to the iPod, which are currently "king" of the portable DAP (digital audio player) market and may continue to be for some time. Apple's marketing team has done a stellar job these past few years.
Yet -- and here's the point I wish to make -- it's not the marketing alone, I don't think, that's propelled the iPod to its majestic summit. Let's not forget the importance of the design -- both the physical design and the way all the software components fit together. YouTube has kind of done this, perhaps -- what do you think? Certainly YouTube's videos aren't all equally created (encoded), but the system is certainly easy to use. One thing I rarely hear discussed is the name. "YouTube" seems an ideal brand name for this type of service. Though I like Blip's ".TV" designation, the term "tube" combined with "you" perfectly captures the spirit of the technology -- or at least, it gives even the casual observer some indication of what the service is about.
