Yeah Deirdré, I saw that (and you all can see it as well at (
http://www.leledainesi.com/archives/2006/12/12/a-new-movement-will-burn-tomorrow-from-leweb3/),
and I think it's great and will participate. It's too bad that there
hasn't been much more done but a parked domain name (which also speaks to
the major hype that Loic purveyed), but watch this space:
http://www.bloggersforbetterworld.com/ I hope that there will be
functionality for videobloggers there. Perhaps Mike Hudak and the fantastic
folks from Blip.tv can offer Yossi Vardi, who is organizing the effort, his
assistance in making the site vlogger-friendly. I just wish that this was
the big headline from the conference, instead of coming off as being too
little, too late in the face of what had happened earlier in the day.

Loic is indeed a hoax, and is proof positive that the biggest problem among
these Web 2.0 zealots is that they arrogantly assume that what they want is
what audiences as small as attendees of Le Web 3 and as large as the general
web-using public want. Le Meur's defense, saying he would take the same
risks again, is feeble and a disservice. I'll be blogging about that on
thegayexpat.com later today.

Above all, I am saddened that this debacle further legitimizes the notion
that Silicon Valley as the center of all things tech, and furthers the
notion that Europe is behind, out of touch, and follows trends for the US.
Solving the problems of this perception could have been a great running
theme of the conference, but instead the running theme was "Loic and friends
shoot the shit about the web". It was an embarassment for France and an
embarrassment for Europe. I hope better conferences emerge in Europe as a
result. We did indeed have a lot more fun at Vlog Europe, and there was far
more substance achieved in far less time.
