Any action now would be too late to benefit most of us - our email addresses have already been captured, so removing the mirroring now will only help those who have just joined and/or have never posted - unless we all intend to change our email addresses.
On the other hand, having a full archive publicly available is a huge service to recent joiners who might like to search for answers to their FAQs. Yahoo's archive at http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/videoblogging/messages/18401?viscount=100is (or was, last time I tried) notoriously difficult to search. Also, for those who care about building Google credibility and traffic to their sites, the archive is a useful source of inbound links, thanks to messages you yourself post (you publish your URL in your signature, right?). FWIW, if I Google my own name, the Google groups link comes up before the Yahoo archive (of course that may be a Google prejudice). Spam is a sad part of internet life these days - no one likes it, but it's so pervasive that there isn't much point in being paranoid and hyperreactive about it at this level. Every email address sooner or later gets captured and the spam starts arriving. It's probably more (if minimally) effective to support legislation to prosecute spammers.
