My sympathy and love go out tonight to the family, friends, colleagues, and fans all over the world of Carlo Ponti, a maestro of the movies who died today (Jan. 10) in Switzerland.
Few people, maybe a half dozen total, have had such a profound effect on an entire national cinema, and certainly not for such a long time or across so many cultural boundaries. Are any of you old enough to remember the Gilda Radner B&W filmed bit on SNL, in which she wanders around early morning New York, I think she may have been holding a balloon? That was one of many tributes to Carlo Ponti's work in U.S. popular culture. I suspect I speak for all the Yahoo Videoblogging bunch when I say arrivederci, Carlo, we miss you. W.W.
